About me

me3Hello, I am Steve Slatcher, and welcome to my world of wine. This world is very much a subjective one, so I don’t believe much in tasting notes, and you will notice that I prefer to write about wine in general rather than describe specific wines. Also, every now and then you might notice my writing is influenced by my scientific background. For a bit more about my attitude to wine and vinous preferences see my manifesto (for want of a better word) and rating system.

I gained a distinction in the WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits, and the Decanter Magazine Prize for that year. In addition to this blog, I have work published in Circle Update (the Circle of Wine Writers’ magazine) and The World of Fine Wine.

My university education was in the physical sciences but I also studied some psychology. I started work in engineering research, later switching to software engineering, but am now concentrating more on enjoying wine and writing about it.

I receive no sponsorship or advertising revenue. I very occasionally benefit from samples, tastings, review copies of books, and trips that are available to me only as a wine writer, and if this is the case I will always mention it. Otherwise, assume that I pay for the wine experiences I write about.
