May name is Steve Slatcher, firstname.lastname@example.org, and I live in Manchester, England. I have a scientific background, mainly physical sciences but also some psychology. I started work in engineering research, and later as a software engineer. I have now retired from full-time employment, and am concentrating more on enjoying wine and writing about it.
My wine interest began in the late 90s. After a few years of regularly attending wine tastings, largely for social reasons, I decided that I wanted to know more. I found I didn’t get on with a formally taught wine course, so instead embarked on self-education, and consequently received a distinction in the WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits, and the Decanter Magazine Prize for that year. From 2013 I have been a member of the Circle of Wine Writers. In addition to this blog, I have work published in Circle Update (the Circle of Wine Writers’ magazine) and The World of Fine Wine. See my rating system description for vinous likes and dislikes.
I receive no sponsorship or advertising revenue. I very occasionally benefit from samples, tastings and trips that are available to me only as a wine writer but, unless I say anything to the contrary, wine I write about is bought myself or shared by friends. The same applies to books: I do accept review copies, but if I do I will always mention it in any resulting book review.
